Marvel Entertainment’s animated miniseries based on The Black Panther comic books for Viacom’s BET network in the US will debut later this year. Marvel will handle sales of the show and be offering it to international buyers at MIPCOM.
The Black Panther is an 8x30mins extended miniseries based upon the comic books of the same name, which in recent times have been written by BET boss Reggie Hudlin. The series follows the eponymous character who is king of a fictional African country Wakanda and who has been widely credited as the first modern black superhero. The Black Panther series will go out in primetime on the network, likely around November.
Marvel is producing and distributing a handful of shows entirely in-house. As well as The Black Panther it will have Marvel Super Hero Squad on its MIPCOM slate. The 26x30mins series will feature younger versions of a range of Marvel characters and target a young boy demo.
Marvel is also working on Iron Man: Armored Adventures, which follows a young Tony Stark, and Wolverine and the X-Men, which will come out before next summer’s live-action Wolverine movie. Both shows are for Nicktoons US.
