ABC Australia launches iView

Australian public broadcaster the ABC has launched its internet-based catch-up service, iView.

The service will offer Australian viewers the chance to watch shows from its two channels on their computers. It will be segmented across various themes and genres.

There will also be dedicated ABC News and ABC Arts services within iView. On the kids side there will be ABC Kazam!, which the ABC said would be a kids fantasy channel.

ABC Docs, meanwhile, will allow viewers to see selected factual shows from the broadcaster’s schedule.

A commercial element will be added through the ABC Shop channel, where viewers will be able to buy or rent programmes that are not available free-to-air.

ABC said it will add to the channel line-up later in the year.
