Discovery acquires Burnett-produced Palin series

Discovery Communications has acquired the international rights to Sarah Palin’s much vaunted Mark Burnett-produced documentary series and will air it on US cable network TLC.

The eight part show, which has a working title Sarah Palin’s Alaska, will follow Palin, who was previously governor of the state. The budget for the travelogue-meets-reality show starring the former presidential vice president candidate is reportedly up to US$1 million per episode.

The series is expected to air on the US cable channel later this year and will likely roll out across its international networks in 2011 as well as distributing the series.

“Discovery Communications is so excited to help Sarah Palin tell the story of Alaska, and to have a great documentary filmmaker in Mark Burnett helping to reveal Alaska’s powerful beauty as it has never been filmed, and as told by one of the state’s proudest daughters,” says Peter Liguori, chief operating officer, Discovery Communications.

“Our family enjoys Discovery’s networks,” says Palin. “I look forward to working with Mark to bring the wonder and majesty of Alaska to all Americans.”
