Online TV platform Hulu has acquired the rights to UK sci-fi drama series Misfits and will launch the show in the US for the first time.
It has bought exclusive rights to the show from BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the UK public broadcaster, and will make it available from next week when two episodes will be available. New episodes will be released weekly thereafter.
The show, about five teenagers with super powers, is produced by Clerkenwell Films for Channel 4 and distributed by BBC Worldwide.
“I’m delighted that Hulu is premiering Misfits to an American audience,” says Howard Overman, writer of the show. “Hulu feels like a perfect home for a smart, contemporary show like Misfits.”
“As soon as the team saw Misfits, we knew the show would be a perfect addition to the high-quality premium TV programming offered on Hulu. Like the other exclusive content we’ve offered on the site, Misfits is smart, unique, and engaging,” said Andy Forssell, SVP of content acquisition and Distribution for Hulu.
