Exclusive: Sony’s AXN acquires Disney’s Missing

Sony-owned broadcaster AXN has picked up Disney’s action thriller Missing in a number of major markets, ahead of its premiere at next month’s MIPCOM, TBI has learnt.

The network has acquired the Ashley Judd-fronted series across Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America.

Marie Jacobson, executive vice president, programming and production, networks, Sony Pictures Television, told TBIvision: “Missing is a particularly interesting show. We have that show in Central and Eastern Europe and in Latin America. It feels like a truly international show and aligns with our international strategy so we went it hard to close.”

Missing, which is produced by ABC Studios and distributed internationally by Disney Media Distribution, was produced across Europe in Prague, Istanbul and Dubrovnik. It stars Double Jeopardy’s Judd as a worried mother and former CIA agent, who travels to Europe to track down her son who goes missing during a summer intership.

The series, which was created by National Treasure script writer Greg Poirier and produced by The Gates producers Gina Matthews, Grant Scharbo and Steve Shill, will premiere at MIPCOM on Monday 3 October ahead of its midseason launch on US network ABC.
