US cable network group AMC Networks has struck a deal with online video streaming service Netflix that will see it launch a raft of shows including The Walking Dead.
Zombie series The Walking Dead, which is set to debut its second season this month, will launch exclusively on Netflix in the United States and Canada. Separately, a raft of programming from cable networks AMC, Sundance Channel, IFC and WEtv including Portlandia, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, My Fair Wedding, Bridezillas and Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys will appear non-exclusively on the service.
“Netflix is already the streaming home of Mad Men and Breaking Bad in the US and Latin America. We are delighted to be in business directly with AMC Networks. AMC’s programming sensibilities have struck a chord with our members and the overall viewing public,” said Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos.
Sarandos was at MIPCOM last week announcing a number of new international deals including the exclusive acquisition of SevenOne International’s Steve Van Zandt-fronted mob drama Lilyhammer and a deal with Zodiak Rights for sci-fi series Being Human.
