#4: The Carrie Diaries (The CW)

The US networks are deep into development season and have spent the past few weeks frantically ordering pilots ahead of this year’s Upfronts and LA Screenings. TBI takes a look at some of the most interesting projects that are up for consideration.

#4: The Carrie Diaries (The CW)

Although HBO’s Sex and the City ended in 2004, the success of the franchise, with its array of feature films, means that it was only a matter of time before someone rolled out a prequel and youth-skewing network The CW has obliged.

The Carrie Diaries
is based on the novels by Candace Bushnell and tells the story of Carrie Bradshaw as a small town girl who must navigate her senior year at high school before finding her way to New York.

The prequel is being produced by The OC-producer Fake Empire, run by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, in association with Warner Bros TV. The pilot script has been written by Gossip Girl’s Amy Harris and is being directed by Miguel Arteta, who directed feature films including Cedar Rapids and The Good Girl.

Chances: High; although The CW decided against proceeding with a 1980s themed Gossip Girl prequel last year, the Sex and the City franchise is a much stronger proposal.
