Distribution alliance Nordic World has hired a veteran Scandinavian channels executive to bolster its drama slate and unveiled its MIPTV line-up.
Former TV2 (Denmark) and TV4 (Sweden) exec Ole Steen Stolberg has joined the company, which claims to now be the largest distributor of independent Nordic formats, as director of sales and acquisitions.
He will focus on building Nordic World’s drama catalogue, tapping into the ongoing taste for Scandinavian noir thrillers.
“With the addition of Ole to our team to help drive our push into drama — particularly the Nordic noir dramas that are proving so popular with audiences around the world — I am confident that 2013 will be as successful, commercially and creatively, as 2012,” said Jan Salling, Nordic World’s COO and sales director.
Nordic World’s MIPTV slate comprises seven new titles.
Headlining are a pair of bullying-themed formats: Comeback Kids (8x25mins) from Gong Media, which sees a once-bullied celebrity revisiting their past to help children break free of the cycle; and Bye Bye Bullying (8x50mins) from STV Productions, which goes into schools to identify patterns leading to abuse.Also on the slate is Immergut’s comedy Hotel Zimmergut (7x25mins); Baluba’s Little People – Big Questions (2x25mins), in which panels of five year-olds debate topics such as the financial crisis; and another Gong show, The Celebrity Tuk-tuk Challenge (8x25mins), which sees celebrities in a wacky auto-rickshaw race across Sri Lanka. Koncern Film & TV’s ‘clash of the condos’ real estate show Home Hunters (8x25mins) and Freeport Media’s Speedomania (5x30mins), which attempts to shock young drivers into changing their habits behind the wheel, round out the slate.
