UK public broadcaster the BBC and Venezuela’s leading broadcaster Venevision are joining forces to make a documentary about the Miss Venezuela beauty pageant.
The beauty contest has produced several Miss Universe and Miss World winners in recent years and the documentary will go behind the scenes at the event.
The BBC will have exclusive access to the 2013 beauty pageant, following the competition between the contestants and their progress in the contest. It will culminate with the crowning of Miss Venezuela 2013.
“It’s a privilege to work with BBC on this film that will document the development and competitive process behind the making and crowning of ‘Miss Venezuela’, says Jonathan Blum, VP & general manager of Venevision. “Their interest in the contest is testament to its prominence as one of the most famous beauty pageants in the world.”
Executive producer for the BBC, Gian Quaglieni, said “We are delighted to be given behind-the-scenes access to this event which can give real Venezuelans the opportunity to overcome difficulties and transform their lives.”
The broadcast of the beauty show is incredibly popular in Venezuela, winning Venevision a 66% audience share last year.
