Whoopi Goldberg making Lifetime TV Movie, A+E to distribute

Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg will star in and executive produce a new Lifetime TV movie, A Day Late and a Dollar Short.

A+E will sell the TV movie internationally as it adds new Lifetime content to its catalogue. The distributor is seeking to inject new life into the genre and has recently commissioned research that illustrates how viewers still respond to the sometimes maligned category.

A Day Late and a Dollar Short will be produced by Ostar Productions for female-skewing US cable net Lifetime.

The film is based on the eponymous Terry McMillan (Waiting to Exhale) novel and tells the story of an irascible matriarch (Goldberg) who, facing the end of her life, attempts to heal family wounds.

Goldberg will also exec produce alongside Stephen Tolkin (Brothers & Sisters) and Tom Leonardis (Ruby’s Bucket of Blood), Jeffrey Hayes (Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King) and Bill Haber (Rizzoli & Isles).

Shernold Edwards (Haven) is penning the script.

Goldberg has previously executive produced Lifetime drama Strong Medicine and the 2001 Lifetime Original Movie What Makes a Family.
