Mediacorp strikes 1,000-hour Asian programming deal

The programme sales arm of Singaporean broadcaster MediaCorp has sold a 1,000-hour package of content to Vietnam’s Goldia One Vision.

The Vietnamese media company has taken terrestrial and pay TV rights to all of MediaCorp’s scripted series.

MediaCorp also announced other programming deals with Vietnamese partners.

It said it has also shopped 350 hours of Chinese drama to TV Pro in Vietnam, which operates the THVL1 and THVL 2 channels and has renewed a deal with IMC, which operates the Today TV channel, for a range of Chinese scripted and lifestyle shows.

Having concluded these deals Mediacorp said it has shopped 1,500 hours of content to Vietnamese broadcasters this year and that the next stage is to start selling its formats into the country.

Tang Yun Leung, vice president of Content Distribution at MediaCorp, said “With these numbers, we should be able to reach out to more TV viewers in Vietnam and develop a permanent viewing pattern for our TV content. We see more room for growth moving forward and in the pipeline are plans to export our formats to Vietnam as well.”
