The series follows four ordinary brothers who have inherited the powers of Norse Gods.
Syfy has acquired the show from All3Media International, the sales arm of UK super indie All3Media, which owns The Almighty Johnsons’ producer South Pacific Pictures.
The UK and Irish version of Syfy already shows the scripted show. In New Zealand it is broadcast on free-to-air channel TV3, which will debut the third season later this month.
Other international buyers of the series include Globosat in Brazil, Network Ten in Australia and Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
“The Almighty Johnsons will be the first wholly New Zealand originated and produced show to be broadcast in the USA,” said Kelly Martin, CEO at South Pacific Pictures. “Whilst so much of the country’s production skills and art have featured in many movies and hugely successful TV shows – this will be the first time that New Zealand’s culture and humour has been reflected into this important territory – complete with actors and accents – bringing the genuine New Zealand to US audiences.”
