Steve Carrell to remake TF1 show for Fox

US network Fox has ordered eight episodes of French unscripted comedy format Slide Show that comic Steve Carrell will exec produce.

Carrell and Shine America will create the local version of the show, which pits teams of funny celebrities and comedians against each other in a series of challenges.

Making the announcement, Kevin Reilly, chairman of entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said: “I think unscripted television should be outrageous and audacious by definition. Unfortunately, not much is, as of late. Slide Show is the most ridiculously fun and out-there thing I’ve seen in quite a while.”

“Comedy is subjective, but if you don’t find SLIDE SHOW to be funny and enormously entertaining, then you will never be my friend,” quipped Carrell (The American Office, The 40 Year-Old Virgin).

He will exec produce along with Thom Hinkle, Eden Gaha and Paul Franklin. Shine International has global distribution rights.

The format comes from Arthur Essebag’s France-based production company Satisfaction – The Television Agency.

Known as Anything Goes internationally, the original Slide Show debuted on TF1 in January 2012 and averaged a 40% share.

An Australia version launched in August on Seven Network and has found success, while other formats have been produced in Portugal and Denmark. Spain, the Netherlands and China are also launching local runs.
