The original doc is a behind the scenes look at Mitt Romney’s unsuccessful run for US president last year.
Netflix will release the one-off doc in the US and across its international footprint on January 24.
It is made by Greg Whiteley (New York Doll) and Seth Gordon (Undefeated).
Whiteley travelled alongside the Romney campaign, following his interaction with voters, preparations for the debates, personal moments with his family, and concluding with final presidential election night results.
He said: “I first met and filmed the Romney family in Park City in 2006 as they gathered to discuss whether Mitt should run for President. Over the next seven years I couldn’t believe I was filming inside rooms and situations I had no business being in.”
Audiences will get their first look at it at this year’s Sundance Film Festival a week ahead of the Netflix launch.
Lisa Nishimura, Netflix’s VP of original documentary and comedy said: “This rare inside look at Mitt Romney and his family as he runs for president showcases a unique kind of storytelling, one which takes the viewer well beyond the politics.”
Having launched a slew of original drama series, Netflix is moving into original docs. Its golf-themed feature about protégé children, The Short Game, will launch this Thursday (December 12).
