Zodiak-owned Sol Productions is produced a 42x60mins version of the entertainment format for Zee Tamizh.
This comes after Killer Karaoake made its Asian debut on Thai channel MCOT recently and format deals with BHD in Vietnam, Mang Meas HDTV in Cambodia and Filipino channel TV5. Zodiak Rights’ VP, sales Tara Gaule brokered the Indian deal.
“This is the first time Zee Tamizh has acquired an international format and we are excited that Killer Karaoke, which is called Y This Kolaveri here, is the one,” said Zee Tamizh’s head of business, N.S. Easwaran. “This decision is aligned with our goal to offer new and fresh content to our audience.”
In the US, the show, which is billed as is “the evil adaptation of Zodiak’s Sing if You Can format” in which contestants attempt to perform songs while in difficult comic situations, runs on Turner-owned cable channel truTV, while adaptations have also been created for RTL5 in the Netherlands and Prima TV in Romania.
“Killer Karaoke continues to roll into territories across the globe, as evidenced by this latest deal in India,” added Zodiak Rights’ head of entertainment Barnaby Shingleton. T”his feel-good format hits the mark when it comes to what broadcasters are looking for at the moment; highly promotable entertainment with great music and laugh-out-loud moments of slap-stick humour.”
