Gurin takes US rights to Wanna Bet?

ZDF Enterprises is working with LA-based prodco The Gurin Company to adapt German entertainment show Wanna Bet? for the US and international markets (excluding German-speaking territories).

The pair will adapt the format, which has run in Germany since 1981, as a daily format. Each episode will see contestants making bets on the outcomes on a number of events, including one that is studio-based. The person who gets the most correct gets to keep their winnings.

Sylvia Brucker, VP ZDFE.entertainment will be at NATPE in Miami later this month launching the format. At MIPCOM, early talks with European broadcasters took place.

Phil Gurin, president and CEO of The Gurin Company said: “I’ve spent the past several years formulating a brand-new daily version of this classic show, and we’re thrilled to partner with the outstanding ZDF team on a new global roll-out.

“The show has everything a big entertainment format requires, and we hope to introduce this new version to markets big and small. It’s a classic title, re-imagined as a brand-new daily.”

ABC axed a previous US version of the series after one season in 2008.
