The 1x60mins programme will be made by ITV-owned factual producer Shiver and go out on June 5.
The broadcaster’s sales arm, ITV Studios Global Entertainment, will oversee international distribution. ITV Studios GE said it will also publish its first e-book to accompany the programme.
The doc special will tell the story of the beach landings and effort to liberate Europe from the Nazis through the eyes of four young soldiers.
Sepaking about the drama doc, Richard Klein, ITV’s director of factual, said: “D-Day – there is no day like it, a day that is probably the most famous 24 hours of the 20th century. And in If I Don’t Come Home – Letters From D-Day we hear the authentic voice of ordinary people caught up in truly extraordinary times.”
Shirley Patton, head of publishing, ITV Studios Global Entertainment, added that ITVS GE will put out more e-books to tie in with TV content moving forward. “We look forward to publishing further e-book tie-ins, giving readers more insight into the programmes and the individual stories of those featured on TV,” she said.
