BBC orders pre-election Parliament doc series

UK pubcaster the BBC has greenlit Inside the Commons, a four-part documentary from political filmmaker Michael Cockerell.

The series, for BBC2, will go out ahead of next year’s general election and will look at the workings of the UK lower house, the House of Commons.

Cockerell has been granted unprecedented access to the Commons for the series.

The Clerk of the House, Sir Robert Rogers, said: “The Commons Commission approved this unprecedented grant of access to the TV cameras on the recommendation of the House’s Administration Committee last year. The broadcaster’s stated aim is an ‘honest portrait’ of the House that informs, educates and entertains.”

Darren Kemp, commissioning editor, BBC comments: “The series has access behind the closed doors of Westminster and permission to go places that the news cameras just do not see.”

Independent UK producer Atlantic Productions is making Inside the Commons. The international distributor is to be confirmed.
