Mexican financier launches prodco Dos Corazones

Mexican film financier Pablo José Barroso has created a move and TV production and finance house hat will focus on “positive” programming.

Barroso, a businessman who turned to film financing nearly a decade ago, has launched Mexico City-based Dos Corazones Films, which plans to be a “top-tier supplier” for networks, studios, digital platforms and independent distributors globally.

The company will aim to create TV series of US$5 million-US$10 million, and movies of between US$10 million-US$50 million, all of which will be English-language and carry “positive messaging” and “family values” for a worldwide audience.

Its first TV project is The Cave, which is based on near-death experiences. Two feature films are also slated, the animated Max & Me, about a priest during the Nazi invasion of Poland during World War II, and Maccabees.

Mexican private equity sources are backing the firm, and there are “no set restrictions on how or where they allocate capital” in order to allow Dos Corazones “maximum flexibility in sourcing projects and material and collaborating with various partners to build a diverse slate”.

Barroso has a history financing faith-based films. He acquired a studio in 2008 to animate 3D projects in Mexico, going to create locally-successful picture The Greatest Miracle.
