Netflix’s Sarandos to deliver MIPCOM keynote

Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos will deliver a keynote speech at next month’s global content market MIPCOM.

Ted Sarandos largeSarandos’s Media Mastermind Keynote Series session on Tuesday, October 14 will likely address Netflix’s launch in six key European territories, including France, where MIPCOM is annually held and where Netflix has experienced trouble launching.

Sarandos has lead Netflix’s disruptive push into original content, having helmed content acquisitions at the SVOD service since 2000.

His Stateside commissions include House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Bojack Horseman. Last week a first French-produced original, Marseille, was announced, while a UK series about the British queen from Sony Pictures Television is known to be in the works, though has not been officially greenlit. This week, Netflix CEO Reed Hasting also pledged to create German programming.

France Televisions’ director, future media Eric Scherer will conduct the talk with Sarandos at 11.15am on the second day of the content market.

Netflix is set to launch in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg. It already operates in the US, Canada, South America, the Caribbean, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands.

A report this week claimed the service will launch in Spain in the final quarter of 2015. Netflix has never commented on such news prior to official announcements.
