Amazon Prime Instant Video launches on Android phones

downton_abbeyAmazon has launched its Prime Instant Video OTT service on Android phones in the UK, Germany and US for the first time.

The retail giant said that Amazon Prime members will be able to access its Prime Instant Video catalogue of “tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes” via an update for the Amazon App for Android.

After updating the app, viewers will be able to install the Prime Instant Video player, which is available exclusively via the Amazon Appstore.

“Tens of millions of our customers have installed the Amazon app on their Android phones in order to enjoy the ease and convenience of shopping Amazon on the go,” said Paul Cousineau, Amazon’s director of mobile shopping.

He added: “Now, the latest Amazon App for Android combines that award-winning mobile shopping experience with access to Amazon’s digital products and services, including unlimited streaming of tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes at no additional cost for Prime members.”

Prime Instant Video includes movies and TV shows such as Downton Abbey (pictured), Under the Dome, and 24 and HBO series including The Sopranos, True Blood, and The Wire.
