Viacom International Media Networks has hired Susumu Imata as its general manager in Japan following the retirement of incumbent Shigeo Numukura.

Imata joins as GM and senior VP of Viacom Networks Japan having most recently been SVP and deputy GM of Fox International Channels Japan.

Numukura has retired after 12 years with VIMN.

“I want to thank Numukura-san for his many contributions to the company over the past twelve years, which have set us up for our next phase of growth,” said VIMN Asia’s executive VP and managing director, Mark Whitehead, whom Imata will report to

Based out of Tokyo, Imata will oversee management and operations for Viacom in Japan across channels brands such as MTV, consumer products, programme sales and digital media while also developing a long-term strategy.

He will work closely with Whitehead to identify new opportunities that will increase VIMN’s presence in the local market.

“We are well-positioned to capitalise the growth opportunities of our brands in Japan,” said Whitehead. “We are thrilled to have Imata join Viacom Networks Japan given his wealth of media industry experience in Japan and his strong sales background.”

Imata previously worked for MTV Japan as SVP of advertising sales between 2004 and 2007, but more recently worked at rival FIC. At the 21st Century Fox-owned company, he was also an acting corporate director for FIC-associated companies such as Star Channel and BS Fox. He also worked at cable TV firm Jupiter Communications.
