Telemundo hires news boss

Telemundo has hired Luis Carlos Vélez as executive VP of its news operation. Vélez joins from Colombia’s Caracol where he was a news director and on-air anchor.

At NBCUniversal-owned Telemundo the new recruit will oversee network news at the US Hispanic broadcaster.

He will report to Luis Silberwasser, the former Discovery exec who joined Telemundo as network president last year.

“As we continue to invest in news and information to serve our audience during the upcoming political cycle, Luis Carlos will be charged with growing the business by infusing innovative thinking and best practices, while working closely with our stations and NBC News,” Silberwasser said.

Prior to Caracol, Vélez was a reporter for CNN International and CNN en Español.
