The US-listed company said that improving internet access and credit card payment options for consumers made the roll out possible.
Cubans with an internet connection and access to international payment systems can become Netflix subs for US$7.99 per month.
The launch comes as US-Cuban relations dramatically improve, with a US delegation heading to the island last month in an effort to ‘normalise relations’ between the two states.
The diplomatic efforts cover immigration and US-Cuba trade, and Netflix’s Cuba move is one sign of a wider thawing of relations.
Cubans can now watch Netflix’s acquired and original series, including political drama House of Cards and prison series Orange is the New Black (pictured) and access the streamer’s full Lat-Am service.
“We are delighted to finally be able to offer Netflix to the people of Cuba, connecting them with stories they will love from all over the world,” said company co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings (pictured).
“Cuba has great filmmakers and a robust arts culture and one day we hope to be able to bring their work to our global audience of over 57 million members,” he added.
Netflix first launched in Latin America in 2011 and has over five million members in the region.
