Passion has sold US drag queen competition series RuPaul’s Drag Race to a host of broadcasters.
Discovery’s female-skewed TLC channel has acquired it for Germany and Turner’s TruTv has snagged UK rights.
In Brazil, pay TV channel operator Globosat has picked it up for its Multishow channel.
In Canada, the OutTV specialty channel has bought the latest season, having bought earlier outings. Foxtel in Australia has also bought the latest, eighth, season of the series, which is about to go into production.
The show follows Rupaul as he oversees and mentors aspiring drag queens contestants. The World of Wonder series goes out on Viacom’s LGBT-skewed cable net Logo in the US.
Elin Thomas, global head of sales at Passion said “RuPaul’s Drag Race already has a huge existing fan base on social media around the world, so we are excited to see this fabulously funny, multi award-winning show hit TV screens in several countries for the very first time. Alongside the 140 hours of US content, we are also discussing local versions of the format around the world.”
