Beowulf star makes Cannes voyage

BEOWULF 19The star of ITV’s upcoming big-budget fantasy drama Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands, Kieran Bew, will travel to MIPCOM to promote the show.

Bew (Da Vinci’s Demons) will be joined by fellow stars Joanne Whalley (Wolf Hall) and Ed Speleers (Downton Abbey), executive producers Tim Haines and Katie Newman, and creator and writer James Dormer.

They will join Beowulf distributor ITV Studios Global Entertainment to host an international screening for buyers and press at 8am on Monday, October 5 at the Majestic Hotel on the Croisette, before attending an evening drinks event at the JW Marriott.

Maria Kyriacou, managing director of ITV Studios Global Entertainment and rest of world, said: “Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands is designed for cross-generational viewing, taking the audience into a breath-taking mythical land of heroes and fantastical creatures, with spectacle and danger at every turn.

Beowulf is joined on the ITVSGE slate by Charlie Higson-penned action adventure drama Jekyll & Hyde, which is another reworking of a classic script; Swedish mystery thriller Ängelby; and Jericho, which is a shantytown community brought together to build a viaduct in England’s Yorkshire Dales in the 1870s.

“The ambitious international dramas on our MIPCOM slate this year offer a host of exciting new worlds, characters and action,” added Kyriacou. “From the atmospheric 1930s London of Jekyll and Hyde to the dark mystery of a small town in Ängelby and the pioneer spirit of Jericho, there’s something to appeal to everyone. We look forward to presenting them to buyers from around the world at MIPCOM.”
