Andrea Jackson has launched a new distributor, Magnify Media, and has told TBI she will be in Cannes next week sourcing content for the new sales operation.
Jackson was managing director, formats, at UK-based distributor DRG, until earlier this year. Before that she was managing director of acquisitions at DRG, which is now part of the Modern Times Group.
Having left DRG and completed a period of gardening leave, she has now set up a new UK-based company Magnify.
It is very early days for the new start-up, and MIPCOM will serve as a chance to meet content companies and add to the Magnify catalogue.
“We want to be a specialist distribution business and we will have a carefully curated roster of clients and projects,” she said. “We will have entertainment through to fact-ent as well as formats, which will be a big focus for Magnify.”
Jackson added there is a role for a boutique distributor and not all producers and content-owners want to work with a huge, consolidated sales company.
“Not everyone wants to work with a big distributor with a huge catalogue where their content could get lost,” Jackson said. “I’ve been overwhelmed by the response so far.”
Details of the producers Magnify will work with, and the titles it will sell, will be announced post-MIPCOM.
