New SVOD service inks Sony multi-year deal

US studio Sony Pictures Television has scored a three-year agreement with French-African and Afro-American SVOD platform Afrostream.

Afrostream will start offering original or subtitled versions of 55 movies and three TV series from SPT, including titles that have never been exported to French-speaking European countries or Africa.

Among the premium content included are movies This Christmas, starring Idris Elba (Luther), and Think Like a Man, which stars Taraji P. Henson and Michael Ealy. This film has never been released in France yet.

The agreement also includes classic movies such as Bad Boys, Finding Forrester and Boyz N the Hood as well as animated satirical series The Boondocks.

Afrostream, in which Orange has taken shares on early this month, is accessible from the web, mobile devices and connected tv sets. The service launched on September 1 in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Senegal and Ivory Coast.
