‘African Netflix’ launches sales division

Africa’s answer to Netflix, iRoko, has launched an international programming and licensing division to shop its Nollywood content.

iRoko Global will be based in London, and look to license around 1,500 Nollywood film titles and 3,000 hours of programming internationally.

“Since 2011, we’ve connected with hundreds of thousands of Nollywood fans through our consumer platform, iRokotv.com, but now is the time to extend our reach and showcase our content to millions more,” said iRoko founder and CEO Jason Njoku.

iRoko senior VP Justine Powell will oversee the global distribution division.

The move comes after iRoko moved into linear television last year with the launch of two channels, iRoko Play and iRoko Plus, in 14 territories through the StarTimes play TV platform.
