The move means that YouTube Kids app users will be able to benefit from features of the paid-for service including ad-free videos, the ability to view content offline and background play – the ability to continue to listen to music while using other apps on a phone.
Users can sign into their YouTube Red account from the parental controls section of the Kids app.
YouTube said that it planned to update the Kids app with further changes enabling parents to customise content in the next few months.
The service launched in the UK towards the end of 2015.
