HBO is set to close its channels in the Netherlands at the end of the year.
The premium pay TV network will cease to distribute its linear channels HBO1, HBO2 and HBO3 in the country on December 31.
Its dedicated on-demand services HBO Go and HBO On Demand will go dark at the same time.
“HBO and Ziggo will announce later this year a different service for the Dutch market featuring HBO programming,” a spokesperson for HBO told TBI sister site DTVE.
HBO Netherlands was run as a 50-50 venture between HBO Europe and Liberty Global-owned pay TV operator Ziggo.
The news comes after the European division of HBO refreshed its channels line-up in the central and eastern Europe region in March, rebranding
HBO Comedy and launching HBO2 in several countries in the region for the first time.
At the end of last year HBO Europe CEO Linda Jensen left the company, with HBO Nordic boss Hervé Payan taking control of the premium channel operator’s Europe-wide operations.
Elsewhere in Europe, HBO has output deals with Sky that see all of its programming run on Sky Atlantic channels.
