Pre-market sales for Planet Earth II

Planet Earth IIBBC Worldwide has lined up a series of deals for Planet Earth II ahead of launching the natural history epic in Cannes next week.

The David Attenborough-narrated six-parter, a follow-up to the iconic 2006 series, has been acquired by Slovakian pubcaster RTVS, Telefonica in Spain and TVP in Poland.

In Japan it will be on NHK, which gets an ‘in association with’ credit on the show. Mediaset in Italy gets the same.

BBC Worldwide’s own channel BBC Earth has the Planet Earth II rights in South Africa, the Nordic region and the CEE region.

Worldwide, the commercial arm of UK pubcaster the BBC, has already announced presales to Swedish and Danish pubcasters, SVT and DR respectively.

Coproduction partners alongside the BBC include BBC America, ZDF in Germany and France Télévisions, all of whom get to launch the series on their home turf.

There will be a Planet Earth II world premiere at MIPCOM, with buyers getting the first full look at an episode on the Tuesday of the market. Mike Gunton, creative director of factual and the Natural History Unit, and BBC Producer Elizabeth White, will introduce the show.
