NBC remaking Sharon Horgan BBC comedy

Scripted-logo-460_2Sharon HorganUS network NBC is developing a US version of cult BBC Three comedy Pulling.

Original series creator Sharon Horgan (pictured) is attached to the new show as executive producer, alongside co-creator and writer Dennis Kelly.

The 2006-2009 BBC series, from Silver River Productions, centred around three thirty-something women with unstable dating lives and living arrangements, and starred Horgan, Tanya Franks and Rebekah Staton.

The NBC version has Bob’s Burger writers Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux attached, and is billed as a “contemporary re-conception” of the original. It will star a character who breaks up her comfortable engagement and moves in with her libertine sister and long-time friend, and follow their tragic attempts at dating and searches for professional fulfilment.

The single-cam remake comes from Horgan’s prodco, Merman, Kapital Entertainment and Fox’s Twentieth Television. Merman and Kapital have a joint venture in the US, which previously attempted to remake Pulling for ABC. Another attempt to recreate the format, also at the Alphabet, ended in failure.

Horgan’s latest show, Divorce, is for premium cable channel HBO. Merman and Kapital are among the coproducers on the Sarah Jessica Parker-starring series, which debuted last month to mixed reviews.
