The seasoned executive and producer has been named executive VP at the Entertainment One-owned prodco, which is behind series such as Grey’s Anatomy and Ray Donovan.
He joins the US-based Mark Gordon after spending three years in development at CBS Television Studios, where his Eleven Stiches Productions imprint was based. He had a one-hour drama, The Case Runner, in development for the CBS network for the 2016-17 season.
Brownfield is best known for a nine-year spell as a senior VP, current programmes at US broadcaster CBS, where he was responsible for the creative development of more than 20 scripted series, including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, NCIS, The Good Wife and How I Met Your Mother.
He had worked with Mark Gordon on police procedural drama Criminal Minds, which is now in its twelfth season.
At his new company, he will report to CEO Mark Gordon, who said Brownfield was “a rare talent whose immense creative abilities match his superb skills in keeping productions on track”.
Mark Gordon is currently planning a “notable increase in on-air programming” in the US and internationally, with Brownfield’s hire tying in with that strategy.
He will supervise all production activities for current series and work closely with the creative team to develop premium programming.
“Joining TMGC feels like the ideal way to utilise my creative and production experience,” said Brownfield. “Their current series and development slate are of the highest quality, as is their terrific team of executives.”
Brownfield’s hire comes soon after Mark Gordon scored a deal with Xavier Marchand’s new London-based prodco, Moonriver Content, to create European programming.
