A+E nabs Liberty exec for Americas role

Francisco GuijonA+E Networks has appointed Liberty Global exec Francisco Guijon as senior VP for the Americas.

Guijon will report to Edward Sabin, executive managing director of international for A+E Networks.

Based in Miami, Guijon will be responsible for managing the profitability and expansion of A+E’s high-growth channels and media assets in Latin America and Canada, including the day-to-day relationships with the company’s partners and businesses in the region.

Guijon will also draw on his experience to focus on expanding and executing on A+E’s digital strategy, a primary focus for further growth in the region. He will also partner with A+E’s NY-based digital team and international leaders to help inform digital strategy in other regions.

Joining A+E from Liberty Global, Guijon was previously programming, content and ad sales director.

“We are thrilled that Francisco is joining our team,” said Sabin. “He is an incredibly dynamic and strategic executive who has helped hone the cutting edge of convergence between legacy television platforms and digital services in Latin America.”

“His deep experience innovating around digital products and platforms, evolving relationships between programming services and distributors, and devising novel ad sales solutions, will further supercharge our businesses in the region.”

In related news, long-serving A+E exec Russ McCarroll is transferring to Discovery Channel.

He has been working at History Channel as SVP of programming and development, but is moving to become SVP of production and development at Discovery’s New York office.

Among his duties will be managing US production and development from Discovery’s London office.
